It's getting to be impossible to get a hold of Blender for the Blender PC, Blender Portable, and Blender Mobile versions anymore. And by now it's very clear why there is such a rush for the newer, improved versions of those programs. Everyone's pretty much hopped on the latest version. I really don't know how a developer with even a shred of integrity could push out a new update to an app that has been out in the market for over a year. Here is what I think happened:
Every single person who downloads free applications has a free trial version in their computer. This is not a good idea for two reasons. First, it means that they are downloading a free trial version of the application because they don't want to pay for it. Second, and most importantly, it means that they don't care about what you are offering. They probably won't know why they are downloading the application, so they will just get it. There is no sense of giving your users free time to waste. The best way to make money from a free application is to give it away for free.
That is what they did with the Blender mobile app, so I'm sure that Microsoft, who owns the Windows operating system, noticed this. So they started targeting the Blender for Windows, Blender for Blender PC, and Blender for Windows Portable. These are all good enough for the poor souls who downloaded a free version of the app. However, what do you think Microsoft is going to do when you actually try to install the Blender Portable version? They'll have to come out with something that works as well or better than the paid version.
